The Flax Bicycle Route

With its long sections laid out as a greenway, i.e. without motorized vehicles, it is the ideal route for families and beginner cyclists.

Through the Pays de Caux ...

A perfect bicycle route to discover both the Alabaster Coast and the Pays de Caux. This 75 km long route, of which more than 50 km is a greenway, is ideal for families and lends itself as an alternative to La Vélomaritime® between Pourville-sur-Mer and Fécamp. This route owes its name to the numerous flax fields that structure the landscapes of the Pays de Caux.

A course

Bordering the fields of flax

With this itinerary, fans of the little queen have the opportunity to take a route that gives pride of place to one of the jewels of Seine-Maritime: the flax.

From spring to late summer, you will discover all the stages of cultivation of flax. Sown in March / April, in flower during the month of June and then “pulled” during the summer and arranged in windrows in the fields to make it “rust” (vulgarly, we can say that it dries). Then, during the summer, we turn it over to homogenize the retting and roll it up to finish the harvest. Next steps: the work of the fibers. But that’s for later!

A must-see!

On the route you will cross the Saâne Valley. It is a valley away from the busy tourist routes, sprinkling quiet villages in which hide, behind a curtain of trees, some beautiful homes. This is the case of the charming bed and breakfast “Le Manoir du Tessy” or the magnificent Château de Gueures.

Another good address in the area: La Ferme de la Saâne, a real educational farm that delights young and old alike. Mathias and Elisabeth Verdure welcome you with a rare kindness and the desire to make discover their animals to the greatest number.

See also:

  • Offranville and its twisted bell tower
  • The meanders of the Saâne river in Gueures
  • A point of view on the Castle of Gueures just a step away from the course (private castle)
  • The Luneray market every Sunday morning and its shops, ideal for a refueling or a warm meal!
  • The old stations and gatekeeper’s houses, remnants of the past of this railroad line
