Cauchoises residences

on the trails of the Terroir de Caux

Do you like to hike while discovering the local heritage?
Walk our trails to discover numerous farmhouses with multiple charms.

Sandstone, flint, or wood-framed, there are all styles for all tastes!

Here are a few photos of Cauchois homes among so many others to glimpse in the valley, in the village or on the plateaus, captured at the bend of my rando scouting or my walks!

Don’t forget that these are private properties, and that it goes without saying that it is formally forbidden to enter them! 😉

Vernacular materials...

In the past, craftsmen built from materials located nearby.
The sandstone generally came from the Pointe d’Ailly in Sainte-Marguerite-sur-Mer or from the quarries of Varneville, the silex from the beaches of the Alabaster Coast and from the paving of the fields, and the brick from the numerous brick factories that were built, such as in Greuville, Longueville-sur-scie or even Bacqueville-en-Caux… Moreover, we find in these communes hamlets and streets still bearing the name of “brickworks”.

Earth side

On the land side, magnificent houses made of brick, wood, thatched or tiled, surrounded by greenery or on the edge of a river, lost in the middle of a wood…

Sea side

On the sea side, large seaside villas enjoy a magnificent view of the beach. Of all shapes and colors, each bears a name that reflects the identity of the place, the Rafale, the Coup de Vent, the Mouettes, the Bel Horizon, the Galets, and others of the more exotic names, the Finnish, the Kremlin, the Alizés,…

It’s up to you to find them!

You too can come and walk our paths to discover this exceptional heritage by equipping yourself with our hiking map available at our reception offices in Quiberville-sur-Mer and Auffay-Val-de-Scie or to download it from the website!
